When you work with people for a reasonable length of time you become privy to their quirks and idiosyncrasies. Of course I would be referring to my boss.
Have you ever been around someone who has to always correct you, even when you don't need correcting? You might say, "Boy, the grass sure has gotten high." To which you receive the response, "Nooo, it just hasn't been cut lately."
??????????
Or you might state on MONDAY that you will supply a document TOMORROW only to be scolded because the report is needed TUESDAY.
DOUBLE ???????????
At first it threw me off each and every time. I seemed to always be muttering something like, "Isn't that what I just said?" Occasionally, I even muttered a few ...ahem...obscenities under my breath. Now....I just have myself a chuckle.
Why am I telling you this? My dear employer just spent several minutes bemoaning a one hour phone conversation with a long winded potential customer. Given the possible client supposedly "has more money than god" (per Mr. Boss Man) he felt obligated to hear him out. Especially since we are a luxury service company that bills at an ungodly hourly rate. But this phone call came with a price.
A price to me.
Ranting and raving over losing an hour of his day ensued, with a few "F" bombs thrown in for good measure. Being the dutiful employee that I always try to be, I did what I am paid to do...nodded sympathetically and told him how hard it must have been to be glued to his chair listening to the ramblings of an eccentric millionaire. Then I did the unthinkable. I made a what-I-hoped-was-an-understanding comment.
Me: "I'm so sorry you spent all that time on the phone for what could have been a 15 minute conversation."
Mr. Boss Man: "Nooooo! (Insert eye roll) A TWELVE minute conversation."
Duh! What was I thinking?
You are toooooo funny!!!!! I would take it that this man and his personality equals a no win situation.....so tune him out!!!!! I have an acquaintance that does this to me all the time and sometimes I could just scream...but I found a way to win with her, she comes back at me with a comment and I SAY "WOW, you are so right, smile and go on to something that takes me away from her"!!! No matter what I say, she has to one up me, so one up me darling and I'm OK!!!! I don't need to win, I just need to think you can be a real jerk and giggle to myself!!! Love you and miss you!!!!! Have a Terrific Tuesday!!!
ReplyDeleteBIG SIGH!!!!! UGH....I've come to realize that those type of people are pretty unhappy with themselves and where they are in life. Sometimes I make the mistake of commenting back and it NEVER does any good....it just makes me more aggravated! SMILE and thank the Lord that you aren't like that!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating! But at least you can kind of laugh about it. Next time, think of his behaviour as blog fodder.
ReplyDeleteLol..yes I feel your pain! I hate being wrong all the time and would love to be right once and awhile. It is also hard not to roll my eyes right back at her.
ReplyDeletelol...oh my word! That is totally one of my biggest pet peeves! The crazy thing is that DH does similar things to me sometimes, and he just doesn't even realize he's doing it...except that he's not my "boss" and I can say "Yeah, that's exactly what I just said" then we get into a 20 minute useless/meaningless spat about why it is or isn't what I said and what he said! lol...the joys of communicating sometimes!
ReplyDeleteAnyway...good luck w/ your patience!
Ahhh, are you serious???
ReplyDeleteThat's so hilarious, but I do know someone similar, and I won't say if I work with them or not hehe, but I feel your pain :D
Been there,I no longer work there, :-)
ReplyDeleteIt can be anoying. I agree with what Jocelyn
says.
Have I ever mentioned that I work for a freaking moron? I totally feel your pain. Ugh... bosses. It's the roundabout way of teaching us to be calm and patient. How's your workout challenge coming along?
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking... we should be humming "Fat bottomed girls they make the rockin world go round"....
ReplyDeletehahaha, loved the intro, loved the actual story, LMAO with the actual punch line ... you're hilarious Lisa.
